TradeLink help

Backend not connected?

These are the most common causes we see. Work through the three checks below before contacting support.

Check your hedge symbol

TradeLink normally tries to find your broker’s gold symbol automatically. By default it looks for:

XAUUSD

Some brokers use a different name, such as XAU/USD, XAUUSD.abc, XAUUSD.r or another broker-specific variation.

TradeLink can detect many of these automatically, but if it cannot find yours, enter the exact broker symbol manually:

  1. Open TradeLink in NinjaTrader.
  2. Open Advanced.
  3. Click Open Dashboard.
  4. Open Settings in the TradeLink dashboard.
  5. Find Hedge Symbol.
  6. Enter the exact name your broker uses for gold.
  7. Save your settings.
Tip: Copy the symbol exactly as your broker shows it. Small differences such as a slash, suffix or full stop matter.

Make sure your Tradovate account has actually been activated

If you use a Tradovate-backed NinjaTrader account, you may need to activate the main Tradovate account before NinjaTrader receives live market data.

This does not mean simply signing into Tradovate through NinjaTrader.
You need to go to the Tradovate website itself, log in there, and complete any outstanding account agreement or activation step.

You would normally only need to complete this main-account activation once. It should not be necessary for every new evaluation account you receive.

How to check

  1. Open one of your normal charts in NinjaTrader.
  2. Look for the small clock symbol that indicates a delayed data stream.
  3. If you are on delayed data, go directly to Tradovate’s website and log in there.
  4. Complete any outstanding agreement or activation prompt.
  5. Reconnect NinjaTrader and check that the delayed-data indicator has gone.

Signing into a Tradovate connection inside NinjaTrader is not the same thing as activating the account on Tradovate’s website.

MT5 users: check your terminal location

This check only applies if you use MetaTrader 5 as your hedge platform.

TradeLink normally tries to locate MT5 automatically. A common installation looks like:

C:\Program Files\MetaTrader 5\terminal64.exe

However, brokers often install MT5 into their own folder, for example:

C:\Program Files\MT5 My Broker\terminal64.exe

If TradeLink cannot find the terminal automatically:

  1. Open TradeLink in NinjaTrader.
  2. Open Advanced.
  3. Find Local Terminal File Location.
  4. Click Browse Terminal 64.
  5. Browse to the MT5 installation containing your hedge account.
  6. Select terminal64.exe.

Make sure you select the actual terminal64.exe used by the MT5 installation where your hedge account is logged in.

Still not connected?

After making a change, save your settings and reconnect TradeLink. Check that NinjaTrader has live market data and that the selected hedge platform is available and logged in where required.

If it still will not connect, make a note of the exact error shown in the TradeLink window or dashboard before contacting support. That message is usually the quickest way to identify what is missing.
